to Detroit and back

We headed to Detroit for Memorial Day weekend to see Ben, Jen and the kids. I couldn't believe how big they have gotten and I was reminded of how much I love my niece and nephew! We got there Friday night and were greeted with big hugs. On Saturday we ventured to a park with a lake for some row boat fun. Daxton was so proud to row the oar all by himself. He even got the concept of lifting it out of the water, putting it back in and pulling. He is a smart kid! After playing at the park, we went to a farm to see and pet some animals. Jacy LOVED the animals and made sure to tell us what they all said. Dax and I loved the pigs the most and I wanted to take one home, Swine Flu, Shmine Flue...

We then headed back to the house and had a Mario war while the kids took naps. After we ordered pizza and headed to a beautiful park across the street from their house for a walk and baseball. On Sunday we went to church and then Jenny made us some yummy Reuben sandwiches and we played games before we headed home. Did I mention Jacy LOVED Darren. It was so cute I could cry. She would just crawl up on him and lay on his lap. On our way home, we witnessed a man hit a deer and pulled over to make sure he was okay. He was fine, the deer wasn't and his car was un-drivable. It turned out he was headed to Pittsburgh so we gave him a ride and he told us all about his life as a chef and shared some cookies and Jewish bread that was turned in to the best french toast the next morning. Our last adventure was on Memorial Day when we took advantage of the weather to go for a scooter ride and play tennis. On our way home the scooter died and we walked home for 2.5 miles with all our gear, including helmets. I know we looked awesome! It was quite the weekend and full of good times! I sure love that I have family close enough to visit, thanks Ben and Jenny for everything,we love you guys! Here is the video of Dax rowing the boat. video

I didn't know you guys lived so close to eachother. If I was smart and new my geography I am sure I would know that, but alas, I am not smart.

Loved all the pictures and I am glad you had such a fun weekend with the fam. Sorry about your scooter though. I hope it is fixable!

Sounds like a fun weekend! I think I would be scared to give a stranger a ride...I guess maybe if my husband was with me?? I don't know about that! You are good people! That is a bummer about your scooter.

Oh!!! The good old days to not be tied down to kidos and head off whenever you want. I like living through your weekend adventures. I am impressed you guys gave that guy a ride home. i think I would be so worried that he was going to kill me. Well done on being a good citizen.

What an adventuresome weekend. Isn't it fun to have family within driving distance? Next time we'll have to coordinate our trips to Michigan. I'm glad someone got to play tennis over the weekend. I was voted down...

Your mom pulled up your blog when we saw her in UT to show us the video of Daxton--so cute! How fun that they are semi close :)

I have many things to say. One, I wish I could enjoy this post more but it just kind of makes me want to cry because of how much I miss my sister my brother my sis in law my bro in law and the 2 cutest kids ever!! Two, after watching the video I am not so sure dax really did like rowing so much and how freaking cute was it when you said do you want to rest and he put his head on your lap. I am pretty sure they could just set up a recorder to follow dax all day and I would be entertained for ever. Maybe we should talk to jen about that. Three, didn't your mom teach you not to talk to strangers, let alone let them in your car? ok just kidding I have totally done that, its kind of a weird exciting hu? Four, I just miss you. Five, I made that pic of you and dax, with his squenty eye smile my background, I absolutely love it. Six or Seven, I lost track, totally random but do you watch so you think you can dance if your answer is no you really should, I promise it will bring some extra joy into your life. Last, I miss you. oh and I can NOT wait to see you!! come sooner in fact, I wont mind. I wish I did not like you so much this long distance thing would not be so hard on me. we need to learn how to be better phone talkers, big down fall in our relationship. oh when you come, bring me 6 maybe 7 chocolate croissants. (I don't know if thats how you spell it, it was just the first word on spell check. ok but really, miss you. (the word i had to type for "word verification" was forki, how funny and fitting (mom saying fork if you did not get it)ok ok ok i am sorry, i just can't stop I just went running 3 miles at midnight and now its 1 and I have lots of energy and i would call you but its 3 there, i hate the time difference.
